Holy amazingness, I loved this book. I can't remember the last time I read a debut that I enjoyed as much as A Lady Awakened, and I wish I could start it over again for the first time so I could savor it. As it was, I just couldn't put it down. Everything about this book was utterly wonderful - the characters, the romance, the setting, the resolution, the writing. Initially, I was unsure I could get behind the premise - a widow buying the services of a single man in order to hopefully secure the inheritance from her late husband? Sounds a bit ew. Grant totally sold me, though, and I was totally engrossed by how she overcame all the seemingly insurmountable obstacles facing Martha and Theo. By the end, in fact, it's more than just Martha who's awakened, and Theo's transformation (perhaps evolution would be a better description as his latent abilities are brought out) was just as beautiful.
